STAUNTON – (12:30 p.m.) Both northbound lanes of Interstate 81 are closed at Harrisonburg due to a tractor trailer crash about 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 23. The tractor trailer struck the underside of the westbound Route 33 overpass at exit 247 (Harrisonburg/Elkton). The I-81 northbound lanes are expected to remain closed for at least two hours as inspectors from the Virginia Department of Transportation examine the damaged bridge.

Northbound I-81 traffic is being detoured at exit 245 (Port Republic Road). Detoured drivers will go east on Port Republic Road, north on Stone Spring Road, and then west on Route 33 (Spotswood Trail/East Market Street) to return to I-81.
